Clippy
Published by Nichole on 14 August 2008.Some of you may be familiar with the MS Office Assistant Paperclip ("PC" if you will.) PC is annoyingly helpful (or tries to be) and pops up every now and then to try to anticipate what it is that you're trying to do. ("It looks as though you're writing a memo...etc.) Well, what you may not know is that PC has a cousin named Clippy who is, well, the opposite of helpful to say the least. Clippy, instead of offering you useful time saving pointers, just periodically spews out random information about your
computer, such as:
- It appears you are connected to the Internet.
- I see that you have been using your mouse.
- Your computer seems to be turned on.
- It looks like your keyboard is working correctly.
- Your productivity has been decreasing lately. I hope everything is ok.
- Sometimes I just popup for no particular reason, like now.
- I have detected a mouse move, this was normal.
- Your posture seems to be degrading, please reposition yourself now.
- Your Windows Desktop icons are still there.
- Your monitor is operational.
- I have detected your F1 key (help) to be working correctly.
- Background processing has rated your typing speed to be below normal.
- Your mouse is dirty. Please clean it to restore optimal performance.
- It is time to play a game, lets play hide-and-seek.
- Would you like me to go away?
- I thought you should know that today is [date].
- I noticed you have Internet Explorer installed on your system. You can use that to find things on the Internet.
As you can probably tell by now, Clippy is meant to be a prank, downloaded and installed on some unsuspecting persons computer. Childish? Perhaps. But I say HILARIOUS! I desperately want to put it on the tech support persons computer who asked me repeatedly in several different ways if my computer was on...but I think it would also be fun for unsuspecting roommates, parents, spouses, and children!
**Disclaimer** This blog is for educational/entertainment purposes only. I did not
create Clippy, I have no idea what will happen if you install it on you computer, it's entirely possible that it will crash, if you take the time to search and download and then something bad happens like you lose all your important files, you can't blame me!
